Planning - Analysis of Original Dot Rotten - Overload Video

Dot Rotten's music video for Overload is in an amplification form as there is no specific illustrations of the lyrics nor is there disjuncture in which nothing relates. However, there is some form of link between the lyrics and the video during the lines "masters of the system, they make the decisions, we're programmed to obey, we're programmed to listen, the masses are the victims, they've got us in this prison" there are shots of riots, protesters and people who had power.

In our music video, we will be focusing more on the performer and his emotions. The lyrics are quite serious and emotional therefore, we want to portray that more through the video as in the original video, we see Dot Rotten standing and singing and towards the end there are shots included of riots, political references and people who were in power etc. Which somewhat takes away the attention to himself and the song and onto the images shown in the video. We want people to feel the emotions through the video and fully connect with the performer.

The original music video has several consistent mirrored shots and most of the shots are shot in the daylight. However, in our music video we want to shoot in the afternoon/evening as we want light to stand out as it is an essential aspect in our music video. The original video is shot in greenery areas with mountains and rocks. Sections of the original video was filmed in the Snowdonia National Park, around the Ogwen Valley and Nant Ffrancon area in North Wales which portrayed coldness. We would like to film our video in main landmarks in London such as London Bridge, Greenwich, Piccadilly Circus etc. to get that 'city' vibe.
