Andrew Godwin
Andrew Godwin came with a theory about how the structure
of pop videos.
He believes that a narrative structured music video does not
apply to pop video. The reason why he believes this is because pop videos are
usually built around the song. The
second reason is because pop videos usually have the singer playing the role of
the narrator ad the character. Lastly the singer looks into the camera most of
the time in the video which involves the viewer into the music video more. Pop videos approach a narrative structured
video from a different perspective instead of using the novel and film type of
structure.
They are three different forms of video structure which are
illustration, application and disjuncture. Illustration is when a story is told
through a music video. Amplification is a video is a video introducing a new
meaning without contradicting the lyrics of the song. Disjuncture is when there
is n relation between the video and the lyrics of the song.
Another feature you will expect in a pop video is sexual
attraction. Artist such as Beyonce, Lady Gaga , Madonna, Rihanna and many more
tend to use this a lot. This is used to attract the opposite sex, to make sure
people watch the video even if they do not like the song because sex sells.
Music video/songs which are written for a particular movie
tend to always show scenes of the actually movie in the music video. This can
be a way of promoting the movie.
