Today, music videos are produced to sell the single and to promote the artists' profile. A good music video will be visually memorable and pleasing for the viewers therefore it will increase the number of sales and the artist will potentially gain more fans. The artist will be predominate in the music video and the director and producer will use mise en scene and camera shots to keep the main focus on the artist. This will ensure that the fans get to see their favourite artist which is very important.
Music videos can also be produced to visually interpret the meaning of the song or help create a better understanding. Additionally, music videos can also showcase talent such as dancing and acting which many songs will involve (for example, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Rihanna).
All in all, music videos are produced as a marketing strategy to promote the song and the artist.
