Laura Mulvey

Laura Mulvey
Laura Mulvey’s theory is understandable. She expresses her theory through her feminist point of view. Mulvey coined the term ‘the male gaze’ ‘presenting’ ‘women as image’ or ‘spectacle’ and man as ‘bearer of the look’ ‘Spectator’.  She suggests that women’s worth is purely visual; they are just there to be looked at by men. This means representation of women is dismembered by men, as they objectified and sexualized. The representation of women in the media is corrupted.

Examples of videos:
·      Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya, Pink – Lady Marmalade: This song is very sexualized and the representation of women are seen more sexual and give of the  ‘men look, women are looked at’

·      Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dog – California Girls: This also is another example that women are feasted on by the use of ‘sweets and candy’. This attracts the male eye even better.
